MRG Closes Drummond street for the F1 Piazza

June 2008

The Morentzos Restaurant Group in conjunction with the Tidan Hotel Group, closed down Drummond Street for the first time (between St. Catherine & Peel) transforming it into a European style Piazza, for a 4 days during the Montreal Grand Prix. The verdict was unanimous, Drummond street emerged as the clear winner in the street festivals this past Grand Prix. The Mount Stephen's club, Queue de Cheval, Trinity and Le Pois Penché added up to a 1,000 seats outside for guests to dine alfresco. Tens of thousands flocked to the central stage for a cornucopia of jazz, opera, belly dancing and Mediterranean groove tempo beats. "We wanted to bring back a touch of glamour to the F1" said event organizer, Joey Ghazal, who is credited with putting together this event in only three weeks. With a little help from the weather, Drummond street looked a little like Monte Carlo and a lot like the street to beat for Grand Prix's to come.
